Instrumental Music for Children was founded in 1985 by Susan Bridges and she currently runs the program together with Ryan Habegger. IMC has 28 teachers on staff and is serving over 600 children through a core group of 13 schools in Contra Costa County as well as through in-home lessons. Mrs. Bridges has been teaching and running instrumental music programs since 1975. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with an instrumental music education concentration and two lifetime California teaching credentials: a General Secondary Credential for Music, grades 7 to 12, and a Special Secondary Credential for Music, grades K to 14. She has taught all of the orchestra and band instruments and has conducted orchestras and bands. Her primary instrument is the piano.

Ryan Habegger holds a Master of Arts Degree in Music and has been working in the field of music education since 1997. He has taught private and small group lessons as well as conducted concert bands, orchestras and jazz bands. He also plays piano, trumpet, drums, and guitar in various venues throughout the bay area.

Watching the students become proficient young musicians is one of Mrs. Bridges and Mr. Habegger’s greatest joys. It is their belief that the connection between the student and the teacher is of primary importance, and in bringing teachers on staff, they look not only for experience and competence but also for that certain personality that will be able to inspire a child.
